DAY 28_Port Orange to Titusville

02 Nov 2019

Another warm day. Not quite as hot. The route was at about two-thirds was on a trail. Much of it was the East Central Regional Rail Trail (ECRRT). Much (if not all) of this trail is part of (or plans to be) the St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop and the ECG. So glad to have experienced this section. This was the start of a section of trail about 14 miles into the route today.

Along this trail, especially well into it, I saw multiple tortoises. I'm not up on them, so I don't know what kind one would expect to find. Also a juvenile white ibis in molting colors. Saw a kestrel. And a snake crossing the trail. Luckily, I didn't encounter any gators crossing the trail. Sure thought I might see one in some of the areas, though.

I did see this wall of bridge looming in the distance. The picture doesn't do it justice, because I waited until I was closer to take it. It was formidable. I'll call it the Bridge over the 4-4-2.

Imagine how thrilled I was to come upon this delightful Feed Center off the trail. Evidently, smaller businesses are looking at using land near or adjacent to the ECRRT. In this case, it is a 24/7 honor system snack and beverage refueling stop. Vergie had some helpers. Everyone was friendly. There were PB&J sandwiches, sodas, water, a selection of Scratch powder flavors to mix in, all manner of snack bars, some chocolate. I had cheese crackers and filled up my water bottle twice. Enjoyed visiting with the helpers. As I was readying to head out, a small group of women cyclists came in. They were on a training ride for the Miami to Key West ride, The SMART Ride (Southern Most AIDS/HIV Ride). Not sure exactly when I'll end up there, but I wouldn't be surprised if they blow past me.

By this point of the route, the day had become quite hot, and the heat index was in the mid 90s when I arrived at our campground in Titusville. We literally chilled in the AC for a while before finding a sports bar to watch the GA-FL game. We were surprised at how many people were watching other games! We don't get out much, I guess.

When we arrived back from game viewing, it had cooled down enough to open the windows and use the fan for cooling. Then we realized (again) that we have to "fall back" tonight. Not sure if that'll be a blessing or a curse.

Inquiring minds: Pretty sure the new bike seat is more comfortable than the old one. I had to make an adjustment, and I might make another one tomorrow.
