Mon., 23 September -- DAY 15

South Dennis to Bourne, MA

Word for today--Windy! There were some gusts that almost blew me over today. I was to cross the Sagamore bridge and come off onto the Canal Trail for the last three miles to the campground today. DL was kind enough to save me from the long gusty trip across the bridge and pick me up at the Christmas Tree Shops. Isn't it nice that the trail goes through their parking lot! On the cue sheets, it is listed as "retailer's parking lot." Haha. I guess they don't want to give a plug. Or maybe they thought the CTS was going to be just a fly-by-night establishment.

Anyway, here is a picture of me. DL actually went in and shopped before I arrived. I think she thought if I had time to go in there, I would spend the rest of her afternoon looking around. Love stores like that. Come on, folks. It's the CTS! What's not to love? (Hmm. Somewhere in the back of my mind I hear Nanci Griffith's voice singing about unnecessary plastic objects.)

Couple of reflections. I still don't like hills. And I dislike them even more with a headwind. Routes should not send one the wrong way down a one way street (unless there is a safe bicycle path saying that it's okay). When one is facing a "do not enter" sign, that typically means "do not enter." Road and utility work happens. It can add confusion to a route with which one is already not familiar. It does give one a fresh outlook on the remainder of a day if I stop to have lunch. One last thing: Inland back roads can look amazingly similar, no matter where one is on the east coast (at least so far).

34.81 miles / 331.67

  1. Hello Annelle: It looks like you are doing well. There is no East coast greenway trail in Plainville. It starts in Southington (Plantsville) where I live. I am doing the ECGA in November and have done all of it so far. You met my wife's niece in Blue Hill, ME. Call us at 203-895-1878 and we can meet. take care-John

  2. The lure of CTS... It's a powerful tune. As the Irish say, may the wind always be at your back.
