Around Bristol, CT
Talk about rest days. Not only was Friday, essentially, a rest day. So were yesterday and today. Even more so, because there were no bikes to be ridden. Period. It was exactly what we needed. Saturday, we caught up on shopping for a couple of things we needed. Then spent about an hour or so getting our flu shots. Gals gotta do what gals gotta do. Did a couple of other chores around the homestead. Met a new friend. I’ll call them (PC) “Ursa Minor.” (Because there was an Ursa Major--not pictured)! Yes, you can also title this "Annelle acting a fool again."
Then we came back to the camper, set up the chairs, cooked a nice meal outside, had some wine, and chilled. R-E-S-T at its best.
Campground is at Lake Compounce. This is, per their info, the oldest, continuously running theme park in the USA. We didn’t go, although I was tempted by the Haunted Graveyard! Funny, theme park vibe. Tepees to sleep in or these cute little huts, not pictured. But as for the facilities, one of the nicest we’ve been. Clean, large bathroom and shower facilities. All pull-through sites, though no trees. But still. It’s been the perfect temp. And who doesn’t love bears.
Here we are at Sunday. I made some jam-up egg and cheese sandwiches for breakfast (with DLs bread). We needed some groceries, and just a couple of other items we had forgotten to remember. (Some of you know what I’m talking about.) We drove in to Southington to Wally World and back to Bristol to a Shop and Save for groceries. Bought a nice bottle of wine to go with dinner at the nearby package store.
Then I went into “office” mode and took care of some of mom’s finances, took care of some of mine. DL did some laundry.
DL made her delicious InstantPot curried fish dish, and we had a nice pinot noir to go with.
Yes, this means not only did I not ride for three days, it means we delayed our progress by one day. But let me tell you, my knees feel better, my tender parts feel better, and most importantly, my attitude feels better. I had to make peace with not riding this Hartford portion. I have. Done. Tomorrow we pack up the camper and head towards Bridgeport. DL drops me off a few miles down the road from Bristol in Southington. She’ll continue on to our Trumbel/Bridgeport overnight, and then pick me up in Bridgeport in the afternoon.
The ride profile looks much better to me. Not the “drastic” spikes I abhor. Looking forward to boondocking tomorrow at a new friend’s home.
Sky is beautiful. Life is good. And another group of commuters* just flew by.
*Commuters is the term we gave to the large groups of Canada geese that would fly by one way each morning and the other in the evenings when we lived on the Scarborough (Maine) marsh. We still use the term today. And we love it when we hear the honks above and the vee formations as they move from one place to their nighttime spots each day.

Such fun to enjoy the journey together!
ReplyDeleteI love every bit of this. Hope you're back in the saddle soon!
