This was the first night we have had to sleep with the AC on all night. I hate the noise, but it was too warm. Even the breeze was too warm. DL finally changed over to open windows and fan at 5am when I got up to start my day.
Once the sun came up, it was still warm, but pleasant. And again at Jonathan Dickinson State Park, a beautiful sunrise.
I knew it was going to be warm and a longer day, so I was on the road by 7:00. Jack wanted nothing to do with an early rise, except for having breakfast. He went right back to sleep after I had put away the coffee makings.
We have come to another few days of the ride where DL will take me to someplace along the route to start. Likely she'll come pick me up. Some camp places will add too many miles off route at the beginning and end of each day.
The day started from Burt Reynolds Park in Jupiter. The Jupiter River Walk Trail is pretty, but for a significant length, one has to dismount and walk. I would have loved that opportunity later in the ride, but there were nice views, and it was comfortable along the water. Another nice side trail in West Palm Beach. Right on the route I rode by Trump Plaza. But not before stopping to snap a pic.
There were lots of cyclists out today. Several wished me well as they rode by. A couple rode along side and asked questions. On my shade/lunch break at 30 miles, I was in a Publix shopping center. A woman and her daughter asked me about my trip. They wanted a card so they could follow. One of the guys who rode with me for a short while lives five months of the year in Boca Raton. It seems the rest of the year he lives on Long Island. He had ridden from Portland, Maine, to New York City. He wanted to ride from Key West up, perhaps back to Boca Raton. It was nice having a diversion from the discomfort of the ride.
It was another super hot day in the upper 80s with a heat index approaching 100. But because I was next to the water and on some side paths that gave shade from time to time, I made it. I stopped several times in the last 10 miles for a water bottle shower over my head and neck. I drank a nice, cold Coke from a soda machine. And when I stopped at my pick-up point, I took another water bottle shower and emptied the rest of my still cool Gatorade/Water mixture.
I showered upon return to the "campground." Today's venue is a two "community" mobile home "resort." We both think the area may be a little sketchy. But honey, that shower (yes, only one shower for the women, because one is out of service) was great. The best water pressure award for sure. And when one is hot, sweaty, and grimy, one can't beat good water pressure with a stick.
Well hydrated, DL and I went out for our second meal. We looked out over some canal or waterway in Deerfield Beach. I had a Key Lime Colada--a frozen, yummy, glass of perfect. I find that riding makes me look more at pasta dishes than anything else. The shrimp scampi with angel hair was quite good. And the starter salad had lots more fresh cut veggies than most salads. Now I have another meal left for tomorrow. Thank you CHARLIE AND WAYNE for a couple of meals and my beverage from 2 Georges at The Cove. I didn't take a picture of the scampi or salad. But the beverage. Mmm. So cold and perfect.
